Welcome, I'm so very excited you're here!

We raised $550 for the Raising Rarity program in our fundraiser.

12 artists kindly donated artworks created during #LokiLovesInktober

What's Inktober?

Inktober is a month-long art challenge created by artist Jake Parker that is focused on improving skills and developing positive drawing habits. Every day for the month of October anyone participating in the Inktober challenge creates a drawing or artwork and posts it online.

I hope you have lots of fun with this list, the prompts are entirely open to interpretation! All skill levels and mediums are welcome and feel free to do as little or as many of the days as you like.

How to use this page?

There are 31 prompts varying from Threatened to Critically Endangered Australian species, many of them in Victoria. For each prompt I have added a link under the photo, click it to get the info on the prompt, which will have conservation info where possible and for flora a detailed description of the plant. I'll post more info with the prompt on my socials each day. I hope they help you learn about each species and how you can help or get involved. I want to make it easy to find references and info for you, as some of the flora can be rather tricky. Click the button below to download the reference sheet in PDF format.

Combining 2 of my favourite things; art and nature! Nature conservation is very close to my heart and the more I learn about our amazing Australian biodiversity the more I want to preserve and protect it. I have chosen to support RBGV Raising Rarity this year, giving me an amazing opportunity to learn so much more about the work

Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria (RBGV) are doing to save our precious Australian flora.

Check out my  Wild at Home blog series to learn more and meet the team behind this project.

You can also donate by buying a limited edition print here!

Raising Rarity, founded by Dr Megan Hirst, is an initiative of the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria (RBGV), looks at horticultural approaches to help in the conservation of rare and threatened Australian wildflower and understorey species. The project aims to engage the public with these plants through a new approach. Focussing on a species’ horticultural potential, Raising Rarity will introduce target species to cultivation - providing the public an opportunity to grow the plant at home and thus contribute to the ongoing conservation. Raising Rarity will look to harness a balance between selecting desirable traits for larger scale propagation to sell to local gardeners, whilst retaining genetic diversity in populations used within the RBGV.

Foundation for Australia’s Most Endangered Species (FAME) is partnering with the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria to grow their Raising Rarity program. But they also support many projects to save Australia’s flora and fauna never ends – many species are under pressure and some face extinction. FAME’s commitment to confront this reality has no boundaries but our resources are always limited. I have included some of their key species in the prompts.

Everyone is super excited to

As an artist, Inktober is a magical time for me as I first discovered it in 2019 and I enjoyed the challenge and community aspect of it so much I take part every year no matter what else is going on. I use this time to try new techniques/styles and to learn more about myself and my art. I see it as a precious time and love the big community aspect. I hope you enjoy these prompts. Vanda xox
